Mauritius Weather: A Sunny Start Turning Cloudy with Evening Showers (Jan 3)

As we step into Saturday, the weather offers a refreshing start. While yesterday gave us plenty of sun, today marks a transition phase. We are waking up to a noticeably cool morning, which is quite pleasant, but the clear skies we see now will gradually give way to clouds as the day progresses due to a system passing in our vicinity.

Mauritius Forecast in Detail

Clouds in our immediate surroundings are dissipating this morning, granting us a mostly sunny window from sunrise until approximately 08:00 AM. A gentle breeze is blowing from the South-East at an average speed of 19 km/h, making the early hours delightful for outdoor activities.

However, from 09:00 AM onwards, the situation will change. Outer cloud bands associated with Depression GRANT will begin to invade the eastern heights and subsequently spread over the Central Plateau. By the afternoon, there is a risk of light rain in certain areas, but this risk significantly increases by nightfall, accompanied by a slight strengthening of the wind.

Sea conditions are moderate today. In the West and North, waves on the reefs measure between 1.1 meters and 1.4 meters. The Eastern and Southern coasts are slightly rougher, with waves ranging from 1.6 meters to 1.8 meters on the reefs. High tide is expected at 12:32, with low tides at 06:28 and 19:11.

Weather Outlook for Rodrigues

Our neighbors in Rodrigues have seen some wet weather over the last 24 hours: Pointe Canon received 27 mm of rain, while Plaine Corail recorded 6.5 mm. The active clouds are now shifting towards the West. Although some residual clouds in the East might bring a bit of early rain, the weather will become increasingly sunny as the hours pass. The wind remains breezy there, averaging 31 km/h from the South-East.

Cyclone Watch: GRANT

During the night, the system named GRANT was tracking North-West, but it is currently moving in an almost westward direction at a speed of 11 km/h. It poses no direct threat to Mauritius. However, its influence will be felt: tonight and tomorrow, we expect some rainfall due to the outer cloud bands associated with GRANT. Looking ahead to Monday, the wind over Mauritius is expected to pick up significantly, reaching an average of 50 km/h.

In summary, enjoy the bright morning while it lasts! The weather will turn moodier by evening, so keep an umbrella handy if you are going out tonight. Have a wonderful and safe weekend!
