As we enjoy the festive season, nature is gifting us a classic tropical summer weather today, complete with intense heat and inviting seas. It is the perfect opportunity to hit the beach or enjoy outdoor activities, as the conditions are mostly favorable during daylight hours. However, do keep in mind that this is the calm before the storm—quite literally—as significant changes are expected overnight leading into Monday.
Today, the heat is the main story. With a light breeze blowing from the North at an average speed of 16 km/h, temperatures are set to soar. In areas like Port Louis and Rivière Noire, the thermometer could reach a sweltering 35.7°C. The morning might see some clouds drifting in from the North-North-East, bringing brief showers lasting just 2 to 3 minutes, but these will be fleeting. While scattered clouds will traverse the sky throughout the day, no heavy rain is expected before sunset.
Sea lovers will be pleased to know that the ocean is becoming increasingly practicable. In the West and North, waves on the reefs are ranging between 1 meter and 1.3 meters. The East and South coasts are seeing waves of around 1.5 meters. High tides occur at 06:47 AM and 07:09 PM, with low tide at 01:15 PM.
However, a weather alert is in place for the night ahead. After midnight, convective clouds associated with an instability line will begin to influence our weather, bringing a risk of very heavy rainfall for tomorrow.
Over on Rodrigues, Plaine Corail received 2.6mm of rain yesterday. Today, convective clouds are evolving nearby to the North-West, and scattered clouds are approaching from the North-East. While some rain is possible, the most active cloud bands are expected to merely graze the East and North-East coasts. Rainfall forecast lies between 2mm and 8mm. The wind is blowing at 28 km/h, and the sea is settling down to waves of 1.5 meters by this afternoon.
Update on Cyclone Grant: The system is currently located at 12.2 South and 86.2 East, moving West-South-West at 13 km/h. It is generating waves of 5.8 meters. Despite moving closer to the Mascarenes, it remains very far away: 3130 km from Mauritius and 2540 km from Rodrigues. For the next 4 days, Grant will have absolutely no effect on our weather or sea conditions.
Have a wonderful and hot Sunday!
