Good morning everyone and happy Sunday! Today is December 21, 2025. As we enjoy the weekend, the weather generally seems to be on our side, offering mostly favorable conditions across the island. While yesterday brought some localized showers, today promises to be largely pleasant, potentially crowned by a beautiful atmospheric display around midday. Whether you are heading to the beach or spending time with family, the forecast looks promising, though keeping an eye on the sky is always a good idea in the tropics.
Reflecting on the past 24 hours, the weather was good for nearly 90 percent of the island. However, specific areas saw significant moisture. Rose Belle recorded a surprising 17mm of rainfall, while Grand Bassin received 9mm. Other regions that experienced rain only saw minor accumulations between 0.2mm and 1.4mm. This reminds us that even on good days, our local microclimates can bring sudden showers.
For today, the wind is blowing from the East-North-East at a moderate average speed of 19 km/h. The morning might see some passing clouds, bringing a risk of very brief rainfall—lasting just 2 to 3 minutes—primarily over the Central Plateau. Aside from these fleeting interruptions, the weather is expected to be good. A highlight for today will be the presence of high-altitude clouds which creates a strong possibility of a Solar Halo appearing around the sun between 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM. This optical phenomenon is a stunning sight, so don’t forget to look up around lunchtime!
Sea conditions vary slightly by coast. In the West, the sea is relatively calm with waves of 1.2 meters on the reefs. The North sees waves of 1.5 meters, while the East and South coasts have waves reaching 1.8 meters. High tide is expected at 12:57 PM, with low tides at 06:52 AM and 19:39 PM.
Looking further afield, we are monitoring a tropical depression evolving in the Eastern Indian Ocean at coordinates 12.6 South and 105.1 East. It is currently moving West at 13 km/h. There is a high probability it will be named by tomorrow night. Long-term forecasts suggest it could follow a West-North-West trajectory, potentially regenerating and entering our region by the beginning of the new year. We will keep you updated on its progress.
Have a lovely Sunday!
