Mauritius Weather – Calm Winds and Sunny Spells for Saturday (Dec 20)

As we step into the weekend, the weather across the island is settling into a calm and stable rhythm. The forecast suggests that for the next 2 to 3 days, conditions will remain quite consistent, offering a mix of clouds and sunshine perfect for outdoor activities. The strong winds of the past few days have subsided, making today much more pleasant for beachgoers and hikers alike.

Looking at the precipitation over the past 24 hours, rainfall has been recorded in various locations, confirming the localized nature of our summer showers. The highest accumulation was at Grand Bassin with 12mm, followed by Rose Belle with 8mm. Notably, Champ de Mars in Port Louis also received 7mm, while Belle Mare in the east saw only 3mm.

The weather pattern for this morning involves different layers of clouds. Around 5:30 AM, high-altitude clouds crossed the island without bringing rain. However, mid-level cloud bands coming from the East are drifting in, bringing occasional showers. Between 6:30 AM and 7:30 AM, these cloud passages might be more frequent, potentially causing brief showers lasting about 2 minutes in certain areas. Despite this, the rest of the day promises generally good weather with a gentle breeze blowing at an average speed of 19 km/h from the East.

A useful tip for today: With modern technology, checking the exact weather or sea conditions at your destination is easier than ever. Instead of just guessing, you can access live webcams from various hotels and sites online. This is the best way to verify real-time conditions, such as wave height or cloud cover, before heading out for your weekend plans.

Speaking of the sea, conditions are improving significantly. In the West, the sea is calm with waves of just 1 meter on the reefs, making it safe for swimming. The East and South coasts have moderate waves around 1.8 meters, while the North sees waves of 1.5 meters. High tide is expected today at 12:26 PM, with low tides at 06:20 AM and 19:08 PM.

Over on Rodrigues, yesterday was mostly dry with only traces of rain. Today started with sunshine, but a large cloud mass moving down from the North is expected to change things temporarily. From 7:00 AM onwards, residents might experience rain and overcast skies until approximately 10:00 AM. The afternoon should clear up, though the wind remains strong at 34 km/h. The sea is rough with waves of 2.5 meters, but as the anticyclone weakens, waves are expected to drop to 1.8 meters by tomorrow.

Have a wonderful and relaxing weekend!
