We have arrived at the end of the working week, and the weather seems to be settling down just in time for the weekend. Tonight holds a special astronomical event, as we await the birth of the New Moon at exactly 5:43 AM tomorrow morning. This cosmic cycle often brings a sense of renewal, and interestingly, the local weather today reflects a transition towards calmer conditions compared to the blustery weather we faced recently. While the general pattern looks similar to yesterday, there are subtle improvements that will make today quite enjoyable.
Yesterday’s rainfall is still keeping the air fresh, which may feel a bit cooler today. Thermometers are expected to be 1 degree lower than yesterday, which could be particularly refreshing in the tropical heat.
The most welcome change in today’s weather is the reduction in wind speed. The trade winds blowing from the East have dropped to an average of 20 km/h. This is much gentler than the gusts we experienced previously. The morning starts off with decent conditions. If you do encounter rain in the early hours, it will likely be very brief, lasting only 2 to 3 minutes before clearing up. However, as the day progresses, a line of clouds is expected to cross the island. This may bring some light rain specifically to the Central Plateau, the East, and the South. The total expected rainfall for the next 24 hours is approximately 10mm in these regions.
For those planning beach activities, the location matters significantly today. The West coast remains the most protected area, with waves measuring just 1 meter on the reefs, making it ideal for swimming. In the North, waves are slightly higher at 1.7 meters. Meanwhile, the East and South coasts are still seeing moderate roughness with waves of 2.2 meters on the reefs. High tide is expected at 11:56 AM today, with low tides at 05:49 AM and 18:39 PM.
Over on Rodrigues, the weather is also looking bright. Yesterday was very dry with less than 1mm of rain recorded. Today, residents can expect mostly sunny skies. However, unlike Mauritius, the wind in Rodrigues remains strong, blowing from the East with an average speed of 36 km/h. The sea conditions there are still rough, with waves reaching 2.5 meters in the open waters.
All in all, today’s weather offers a pleasant mix of sun and clouds with a refreshing breeze. It is a great day to wrap up the week and prepare for the weekend ahead.
